It Goes Putt Putt

And then you fall over

Waking up in Bermuda was nothing short of astonishing. Bermuda was warm, New York was cold. There were palm trees and green grass with deep blue skies, whereas NY was cold, wet with snow on the ground, and dark gray clouds. My list could go on and on, but I am sure you got the picture. So for the next few hours I’d was the consummate tourist, with camera hanging form my neck and every few minutes I’d want to stop to take another photo. I was clicking as if It was digital and not analog but, stoping to smell the flowers at every turn in every yard at every beach, was just to beautiful to leave behind…

On our first jaunt from the great cottages we took it easy on the mopeds, not seeing just how fast they can go. But after breakfast, we were up for a challenge. The guide book (a resturant paper placemat) showed Elbow Beach a short distance from the cottages which was perfect for us. First stop after a hardy breakfast was a grocer, second liquor shop, It was a good thing that the mopeds had hanging baskets for our list included some towels, sun tan lotion, and more film. I’m wondering did I leave anything out? Maybe a baseball cap with the NY Yankees insignia (not for me)above the brim for one of us with ultra fair complexion; the horrors of being blonde. What rituals we each have to deal with.

Yes, the sand is pink and really shows well when in contrast to green waters and blue shy with huge cumulus clouds can make a master photographer out of anyone regardless of both talent and luck. Also, the clouds in the sky move quickly and adding to the drama of the shot, much more dramatic. The world around me was perfect, the camera great and the film Top notch would make my images nothing short of magnificent, I prayed.

The Camera. The Film. The Results.

The next three days went to quickly for me. and were wonderful and clearly the memories I’ve taken from those 4 days in the 70’s is still very clear to me. Our meeting locals and being told of sneak away coves with pristine beaches and snorklng over the coral formations was great, but clothing optional for that all over tan, well that topped it to being the best vacation I have had in a long, long time.

Now enter life and with it the tan disappears all too quickly. The routine of taking the subway not a moped becomes my daily routine. Its time for me to find a place of y own, but without a real career direction, parking cars or sweeping floors was okay. I mention this to Stan and suggest we do it together since he wants to get out from under his brothers thumb. So into the real estate section each day until we find a spot on East 54 between Claredon and Ave D, right in the middle of our stomping grounds. We meet with the owner of the house and he shows us the one bedroom apartment with a back yard. only took five minutes of Stan and I to negotiate with the owner before shaking hands. He gets a check and we get keys. We are home and since we are adults we start our shopping for the necessities of life, He a fifth of Jack, Me, a fifth Johnny. Then the 5 & 10 we get some glasses, plates etc, and a bottle opener for the wine to follow. Life was good and its going to get better, real soon.

I imagine there was nothing out of the ordinary in getting furniture, or painting or any of the normal stuff two guys in a new place. I think the only thing we were anxious was when Ma Bell would install our phone. 10 days later we set and announce to everyone that we are having a party on Friday. enter the girl next door.

The Bermuda trip was great. Loved it!!! Too bad we cannot go back in time and do it again.

Sharing that apartment with you was a lot of fun.

    Let’s do that again.

    Keep up the good writing!

    LOVE YA!!!
