ABOUT

My earliest memory would be between 1957 and 1958. During those years I was a member of the YMCA, which had a photography club. Assignments were given to photograph and then under supervision, I would work in the darkroom to develop film, enlarge, and print. I used the Durst enlarger which created an image on a piece of photographic paper, then into the developer and kazam! the picture of our cat Maxie appeared on the sheet! I have never let go of the memories of working in the darkroom with its odors of fixers and developers. Added to the darkness it was all magic, and here we are now 2024. 67+ years since the darkroom days of old and now the magic is digital. Getting a large picture from a lens on a phone smaller than a dime. MAGIC, pure magic.

My career has had many interruptions which have caused me to put down my Nikon. Some were for a long time, a very long time. Still, whenever I return it has always been the same thrill as those early days. This is especially true when I was lucky enough to put into sync my eye-seeing and my brain relaying to my fingertips to press the shutter. In unison, my heart and camera go click. A moment in time captured forever. Yes, it’s magic.

I find my work takes me out of the city and into the forest, park, or just a walk around the block. I like being outdoors with nature more than in the city.

Presently I use a Nikon Zf, with both FX lens and DX lenses. I have been with Nikon cameras in my bag since the days of the Nikon FN. I have had other cameras and success with them as well. When I print, I use Epson Fine Art Velvet paper for 99% of my work. Presently I am toying with Fuji Crystal II and enjoying the results.

If you have any questions, just drop me a note and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible. Thank you for visiting.

Namaste
